Prof. Janghyun Kim (Director of the School of Convergence) Publishes a book called, “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence for Liberal Arts Students.”

- Based on Professor Kim’s experience and know-how in teaching liberal arts students while working at the School of Convergence

- Starting with Python basic usage and the artificial intelligence basic learning goal comprised in one book

Prof. Janghyun Kim (Director of the School of Convergence)

Many people are interested in artificial intelligence, but they are hesitant to start learning because of complex formulas or difficult codes.

This introductory artificial intelligence book has been released for the people with so-called "literacy tendencies" who are often averse to numbers and provides an opportunity to experience A to Z of artificial intelligence development by introducing the basics of the coding language Python and the actual AI development workflow, consisting of a total of 16 chapters.

The book contains the experiences and know-how gained by Professor Jang-hyun Kim, who is in charge of School of Convergence for five years since its establishment in 2019, and Professor Min-chul Kim, who currently works as a postdoctoral researcher in the Global Convergence Division and at the Department of Media and Communication at Chung-Ang University.

The first two chapters help you understand artificial intelligence in general. First, Chapter 1 explains the concept of artificial intelligence and the composition of this book. Chapter 2 discusses ethical issues to consider while developing artificial intelligence in the future. This is because as an artificial intelligence developer, it is necessary to always look at the process of developing an artificial intelligence system from questions about the objectivity of artificial intelligence to the representation of data used to create artificial intelligence.

In Chapter 8, we learn Python, a computer programming language needed to create artificial intelligence

systems. Chapters 9 through 12 conceptually explain the steps necessary to create an artificial intelligence system. It consists of three parts: Python's foundation, artificial intelligence development pipeline, and artificial intelligence development practice.

"We made it easy for liberal arts students to understand artificial intelligence if they follow along from the planning stage," said Professor Kim, head of the department. "We made it possible to complete the basic learning of artificial intelligence with a book that we believed was possible only by fully understanding both the field of statistics and coding."
