Office of International Affairs Views : 6906 Attach ( 0 ) 게시글 내용 The World Enlightening 8^th Sungdae Myeongnyun Special Lecture - Effective Altruism: Doing the Most Good’ The global-level erudite scholar and the distinguished chair professor of SKKU, Professor Peter Singer shows up in the next Sungdae Myeongnyun Special Lecture. On the upcoming October 5^th (Wed), starting from 10 A.M., the 8^th special lecture is held by Prof. Singer (Bioethics professor of Princeton University, ‘Center for Human Values’, and University of Melbourne Laureate Professor) under the theme of ‘Effective Altruism: Doing the Most Good’, hosted by Prof. Jeong Woo Koo (Department of Sociology). Prof. Singer achieved international fame after the publication <Animal Liberation> (1975), and is the author of <Practical Ethics> (1979), <The Life You Can Save> (2009), <Ethics in the Real World> (2016). In 2005, the Times journal included him in the 100 most influential people list, and was awarded the most prestigious civil medal in Australia, ‘Companion of the Order of Australia’ in 2012. In Korea, he is already well known as the philosopher from the 2020 June Pre-KCSAT (Korea College Scholastic Ability Test) subject Life and Ethics question and he also appeared in EBS ‘The Great Lectures Season 1’ in 2021. The host of the lecture, Prof. Jeong Woo Koo, said, “It is a great blessing to have the most contentious and influential philosopher in existence as the distinguished chair professor of SKKU. Although the theme of speciesism and animal welfare is unfamiliar, it can help us introspect through our selfish lifestyles and usual prejudices for imagining alternative lives. This lecture will focus on what is a good donation and how it can change our lives and the world around us.
