Semiconductor Systems Engineering Prof. Jaewook Jeon’s Team (SKKU Automation Lab), Won a First Place in a Competition for Automated Driving Recognition Technology

- first place in the field of Forward Recognition Environment

- first place in the field of Omni-directional 3D Recognition Environment

Prof. Jaewook Jeon’s team of Semiconductor Systems Engineering (Team name: SKKU Automation Lab) participated in the 4thPangyo Autonomous Mobility Show held at Pangyo Techno Valley Automated DrivingCenter in Gyeonggi Province on October 16 (Friday) and won the first place in the field of forward recognition environment and omni-directional 3D recognition environment.

This competition for Automated Driving Recognition Technology was organized by Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Landand Geospatial Informatix Corporation (Sponsored by Ministry of Interior andSafety and Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy) to promote the development of autonomous driving-related technologies by verifying the R&T utilization of Korea Data set for Autonomous Solution (KODAS) DB, which was established inthe environment of urban area and highway, and by supporting the activation ofdomestic research and expansion of the base of research expertise.

In the field of Forward Recognition Environment, the performance of detecting pedestrians and vehicles properly in various road environments, including clear and bad weather, was evaluated based on the front camera image data of automated driving cars. The field of Omni-directional 3D Recognition Environment evaluates the performance of detecting pedestrians and vehicles properly in various road environments based on front camera images of automated driving cars and Lidar’s 3D distance data. Prof. Jeon’s team won the first place in both fields and received 10 million won by developing Deep Learning recognition technology.
