2021 Sungkyun Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Award Ceremony



Sungkyun Nobel Prize Candidate Sponsorship Award Ceremony was held on May 17 at the President’s Office.


At the ceremony, Yong-Taek Yun (Chair of the Committee), Keun-Myun Lee (Former Vice-President of HR Innovation), Joon-Young Kim (Chairman of Board), Hyun-Sook Keum (Vice President of Alumni Association), Junmo Cho (Vice President of Humanities and Social Sciences Campus), Seon-Kyu Park (Vice President of Natural Sciences Campus), Dong-Ryeol Shin (President of SKKU), and etc. attended to congratulate and encourage the awardee.


Professor Myung-Ju Ahn was appointed as a professor of hematology and oncology at Sungkyunkwan University in March 2006 after receiving Bachelors, M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at Hanyang University. She has remarkable achievements in preclinical and clinical research on lung cancer targeted treatments and immunotherapy drugs, including 250 SCI papers and 200 presentations at academic conferences. In addition, she was selected as the winner of the award for her achievements, including the selection of HCR in 2019-2020 and receiving Wunsch Medical Award in 2020.



On April 13, Professor Ahn (School of Medicine), who was selected as the winner after review by the Sungkyun Nobel Prize Nominee Sponsorship Committee, will receive 50 million won as a reward.


Sungkyun Nobel Prize Fund was established by the lead of Alumni President Yong-Taek YUN with the hope of producing first Korean Nobel Prize Laureate. Fundraising began in June 2018 and it has accumulated more than KRW 1,300,000,000 thanks to the support of many alumni.



Yong-Taek Yun congratulated Professor Ahn on her excellent research achievement as a pioneer in future medicine in the AI era and encouraged her to win the Nobel Prize.



Professor Ahn, the awardee, expressed, “Thanks to the Nobel Prize Nominee Sponsorship Committee and Sungkyunkwan University for this unexpected award. I will do my best to improve the status of Sungkyunkwan University and contribute to improving human health, improving medical capabilities through repositioning existing medicines and clinical trials for new drug candidates, and developing a targeted therapy and new drugs for meningitis.”
