200 Billion Won Granted Basic Science Research Institute 'N Center' Building Completion Ceremony

The Institute for Basic Sciences (IBS) and Sungkyunkwan University announced that they will be holding a building completion ceremony at the Natural Science Campus in Suwon on September 10th and to celebrate, an international academic conference called the '2015 IBS Conference at SKKU' will be also held on September 11th.

The letter 'N' in N Center stands for Nano and Neuro. It is the research facility for the IBS research divisions of the 'Nanostructure Physics Research Group' headed by Prof. Lee Young Hee and the 'Neuroimaging Research Group' which is headed by Prof. Kim Sung Ki. The N Center is a large research center is an eight-story complex with two basement floors covering a space of 27,570m2. It expected to become a key facility for collective research.

In the ceremony, the Chairman of SKKU's Board of Directors, Dr. Seo Jeong Don, President Chung Kyu Sang, IBS President Prof. Kim Doo Chul, Assistant Mayor of Suwon Mr. Kim Dong Geun, the Ministry of Science, ICT, and Future Planning's Head for Research Development Policy Mr. Park Jae Moon, Head of the Nanostructure Physics Research Group Prof. Lee Young Hee, Head of the Neuroimaging Research Group Prof. Kim Sung Ki, and 200 other guests will be in attendance.

At the academic conference held after the completion ceremony, Korean and international specialists will participate and share recent research developments in graphene, carbon nanotubes, thermoelements, neuroimaging, and more.

"This will provide an environment where scientists can fully immerse themselves in their research," said IBS President Kim who added, "We anticipate aggressive research and knowledge creation to be vigorously carried out at this new research facility."
