2023 Metabolic Pathway Analysis International Conference Successfully Concluded

-Gathering of World-renowned Scholars in the Field of Digital Biomodeling, Sharing Latest Research Trends, and Promoting International Collaboration

Sungkyunkwan University (President Ji-beom Yoo) successfully hosted the Metabolic Pathway Analysis International Conference (hereafter referred to as MPA) in collaboration with the Metabolomics Society from July 24th (Monday) to 27th (Thursday) at the Chobyungdoo Hall in the 600th Anniversary Building on the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus of Sungkyunkwan University.

The MPA conference is a leading international gathering in the field of bio-modeling, where complex network structures and functional relationships of cellular metabolism are analyzed for applications in biology, medicine, and life sciences. This conference is held every two years and marks its 9th edition, being the first time it has taken place in Asia.

President Ji-beom Yoo expressed his pride in hosting this international conference at Sungkyunkwan University and emphasized the importance of this gathering of global researchers and students in propelling advancements in the field of digital bioinformatics.

This year's MPA featured esteemed scholars from around the world, including Professor Adam Arkin from UC Berkeley, Professor Terry Hwa from the University of California, San Diego, and Professor Sang-yeop Lee from KAIST, with a total of around 140 participants from 19 countries. Notably, the conference brought together researchers from diverse academic disciplines such as biology, computer science, engineering, and mathematics, focusing on the exchange of ideas related to cutting-edge digital biological technologies such as systems biology, AI-driven big data utilization, digital twin, and their application in crucial industries like energy, agriculture, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, and microbiome engineering.

Chemical Engineering Professor Dong-yeop Lee, the chairman of the 2023 MPA, expressed his joy in hosting the leading international conference in the field of biomodeling for the first time in Asia at Sungkyunkwan University. He highlighted that the conference facilitated lively research discussions and explorations on various digital technologies in the fields of systems and synthetic biology, such as bio-mining using microorganisms for metal extraction, microbiome-based therapies, and digital twin technology in bio-processes, aiming to uncover how these technologies can be practically applied in industries.
