Sungkyun Institute of China Studies Hosts the 18th Sino-Korean Governance International Forum



On August 1st (Tuesday), the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies (Director Hee Ok Lee) held the 18th Sino-Korean Governance International Forum with the School of Social Sciences at its Humanities and Social Sciences Campus, in collaboration with the National Governance Institute of Peking University. The forum's theme was 'Government and NGO Relations: A Comparative Perspective between South Korea and China.'

From South Korea, Director Hee Ok Lee and Professor In Sub Ma of Sungkyunkwan University, along with numerous scholars, participated. From China, prominent scholars such as Yan Jirong, Director of the School of Public Administration and Policy at Peking University, Guihua, a professor at Peking University, and Wang Qing, a professor at Zhongshan University, engaged in in-depth presentations and discussions on the interactions and new trends between governments and NGOs in both countries, as well as the cooperation and governance of local governments and social organizations in South Korea and China.

Director Hee Ok Lee emphasized during the opening remarks of the forum the importance of enhancing scholarly communication between South Korea and China and expressed the hope to continue the tradition of the Sino-Korean Governance International Forum, aiming to share mutual awareness of issues between the two countries.


Meanwhile, the Sungkyun Institute of China Studies has been organizing the Sino-Korean Governance International Forum annually since 2005, in collaboration with the National Governance Institute of Peking University. This platform serves as a means of scholarly exchange and research on governance, political reform, democracy, and the rule of law in South Korea and China. Director Yan Jirong expressed his aspiration for the continuous development of the Sino-Korean Governance Forum in the coming years, as it approaches its 20th anniversary."
