Professor Jong-Hyun Ahn developed Solid Lubricating Films using “Graphene”

Dramatically reducing friction of lab on a chip.
Results of the research team of Hak-Joo Lee and Jong-Hyun Ahn.

Korean research team developed 10 nm (nm; 1/10 billion meter) thin Solid Lubricating Films. Graphene’s characteristic of low friction has applied in this developing process.

Ministry of Education (Science and Technology) announced on July 14th that Dr. Hak-Joo Lee of Korea Institute of Machine and Materials and Prof. Jong-Hyun Ahn of SungKyunKwan University have successfully managed to produce 7 by 7 “Graphene Nano Solid Lubricating Films.”

Solid Lubricating Films can be applied to mechanical electronic systems and aerospace parts which liquid form of lubrication method cannot be used. If the size of the machine is not big enough, using existing Solid Lubricating Films is not possible. However, Graphene Solid Lubricating Films are only 10 nm; therefore, these films can be applied to fine structures.

Dr. Hak-Joo Lee forecasted, “Graphene Solid Lubricating Films that is developed recently can be commercialized in few years of time.”

On May 5th, the thesis was published on 『ASC Nano』 that is eminent international academic journal in nano-material field.
