The South Asia Sungkyun Writing Contest was held in Bandung, Indonesia on Oct 25th, 2017. A total of 40 students from various countries including Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and more participated in the event.

The theme of the contest was ‘Dreams’ and Prof. Kyong Hwon KIM explained, “We chose the subject of ‘Dreams’ by hoping that the Sungkyun Writing Contest would be a stage of dreams for foreign students who long to go to Korea.”

Azimatul ALIFIYAH from Universitas Gadjah Mada received a gold medal by writing, “I have many dreams and I believe I can achieve one of the dreams if I try my best and don’t give up. Using my Korean language skills, I would like to become a writer who promotes Korean culture to Indonesia.” The silver and bronze medals went to Pimpaka SONSEE (Thailand) and Khansa ZUYINA, respectively. SKKU will provide full scholarships to SKKU graduate programs to those students who received the award.

Ja Choon KOO, the Vice President of International Affairs, said, “The Korean wave is recently sweeping Indonesia, and we will support the Sungkyun Writing Contest to become one of the main cultural events promoting Korean culture and Hangul.”
