‘C6 International Conference’ of Confucian Cultural Sphere

● The ‘Confucian Renaissance Revival’ Conference with 6 Confucian Cultural Countries
● 2012 Nov 16 – 17, Dasan Hall of Economics, SungKyunKwan University

Opinions that Confucianism is the reason of fast economic developments of specific Asian countries, starting from Japan, are coming up consistently. Are those opinions true? There is a chance to solve this curiosity. On 2012 November 16 – 17, SungKyunKwan University (SKKU) College of Confucian Studies & Eastern Philosophy and Institute of Confucian Philosophy and Culture hosted the ‘2012 International Conference of Confucian Cultural Sphere’ with 6 Confucian countries, including Korea, at SKKU Dasan Hall of Economics. The main theme of this conference is ‘Confucian Renaissance Revival’. The conference is held from a sense of awareness to overcome conflicts caused by territorial disputes between Korea and Japan, China and Japan, and China’s Northeast project as well as to make a new union that can be compared with the European Union (EU). Thus, discussions were planned to be different from ‘Asian Values (Confucian Capitalism)’ which ruled 1970s – 1980s. After the Second World War, ‘Confucian Cultural Sphere’ received a lot of attentions seeking functions of Confucianism as a thought power of rapid economic development of Korea, China and Japan. On November 16 (Fri), Prof. Huijie Lai (National University of Singapore), Prof. Chaoyang Pan (Taiwan Normal University), Prof. Tongwon Kim (SKKU), etc. presented at the conference. On November 17 (Sat) Prof. Taeyeoun Hwang (Dongguk University), Dr. Yuanfang Lin (Academia Sinica), Weonki Yoo (Keimyung University), Dr. Caidong Yuan (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), etc. presented.
