Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU)’s has started an experiment on giving students scholarships based on their creativity instead of their grade. The scholarship was delivered to a group of students who received an award on Idea Exhibition.

‘The SKKU Global Architecture Engineering Corporation specializing in human resources’ which was established last year for a construction related engineering educational development of human resources, has organized ‘The 2015 Construction and Software Contest’ in the Natural Science Campus on May 20th and provided 6,000,000  as a scholarship for students who have achieved outstanding results. The winner received 2,000,000 while two runner-ups have received 1,000,000 scholarships each. The other 5 teams have received 400,000 each as a participation award.

The teams consisting of 3 or 4 students were given 15 minutes to complete their presentation and were able to choose and present any topic related to construction.

First place went to the team ‘ACTivist’, who presented simulation software that can save money and time when drilling a tunnel in the process of construction. Leader of ‘ACTivist’, Choi Cheol Ho, a student of Civil and Environmental Engineering, revealed that "While preparing for this contest, we hardly had any sleep for two months. Revising the lectures in detail has helped us a lot, and it is a joy to win the scholarship.” Professor Kim Yea Sang from the Architectural Engineering Department has stated that, “Set aside the practical possibility, there were many fresh ideas using the latest technology.”

This event was first organized back in September with the help of Song Ki Yong, the chairman of SE EXT (Construction Consultancy Company), who donated 100 million ₩ as a scholarship for SKKU students.
