The Service Center for Handicapped Students of SKKU launched a new campaign on priority boarding at elevators, and reserved seats at cafeterias for handicapped students, in order to improve the quality of their student life. The center has been considering the best way to minimize the difficulties that students with disabilities might encounter, and discovered the most discomfort came from using elevators and cafeterias on campus.

To resolve this problem, the center started campaigns to improve awareness. Next to elevator buttons, priority boarding stickers for people using wheelchairs are included. Reserved seats for disabled students are provided at student cafeterias on Humanities & Social Sciences Campus and Dormitory Cafeteria on Natural Sciences Campus. The poster for the campaign was also produced, designed by Won Gyung Choi (Dept. of Psychology, Webtoon artist), a volunteer for handicapped students.

Eun Sun KANG, a manager of the Service Center for Handicapped Students asks able-bodied students to be more considerate of students with a disability. “By spending a lot of time with disabled students, I have realized that the reason that handicapped student feel ‘uncomfortable’ is mainly because the environment around them does not support their situations very well. I am sure every student will be happy if non-disabled students were more considerate towards disabled students.

The Service Center for Handicapped Students strives to provide the best welfare to handicapped students by supporting them with their studies, campus life, employment, facilities around the school, and more.

Also, the center offers various education services such as online education for improving awareness, and camps for developing the capabilities of disabled students. These kinds of programs will be available to all members in the university from 2016.
