“Many friends are asking me how to join Google, but there are not many people actually applying to the company. Try first!” said Joon Hee HAN (22) who started working at Google last October.

HAN is the youngest Korean to enter Google, a destination  many students dream of. He is working with a local advertising team, mainly in charge of exposing related advertisements when users search something online.

He never thought about having this kind of job even at the moment of graduating from SKKU last February. After receiving a job offer from Google, he had meetings with various managers to decide what team he should join. Google lets managers pick the employees they want. He was interviewed at least 7 times.

HAN has been immersed in computer programming since he was very young, as he was really good at Science and Math at school. He applied to SKKU to study more in depth, and entered the Department of Software. He participated in the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) two times as a representative of Korean universities, and received special prizes.

HAN said, “I thought I didn’t have enough qualifications to apply to Google. I just wrote about my experiences in contests, internships, and other things briefly and got a job offer. Failure once does not mean you cannot join Google forever. Try first!”
