SKKU, the largest number of projects were selected for the 2021 Academic Support Project in humanities and social sciences fields 

  • - Selected 5 projects supported by the Office of Humanities & Social Sciences, 1 project supported by Division of Social Sciences
  • - Promote and stimulate researches in humanities and social sciences, expect to play a leading role in fostering excellent researchers

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU, President Dong-Ryeol Shin) announces that six projects were selected as new projects and ranked 1st in the 2021 Academic Support Project in the Humanities and Social Sciences Fields” promoted by the Ministry of Education and National Research Foundation of Korea.


The Academic Support Project in humanities and social sciences are composed of four projects, and Sungkyunkwan University was selected 5 projects (a total of 98.8 billion won) supported by the Office of Humanities & Social Sciences, 1 project (a total of 5.5 billion won) supported by the Division of Social Sciences.


The project supported by the Office of Humanities & Social Sciences has been promoted since 2019 to foster universities and domestic research institutes as specialized research bases and foster next-generation research personnel. The newly selected projects will be supported for 6 years from September 1, 2021 to August 2027. The period for projects supported by the Division of Social Sciences is about 3 years (33 months) from September 2021 to May 2024.


Prior to the selection of this project, SKKU’s Institute of Korean Philosophy and Culture (Project title: Build Bridge - Communication and Spread of Korean Philosophy, Director: So-Jeong Park) was selected for the “K-Academic Expansion Project,” organized by the Ministry of Education and the Academy of Korean Studies and obtained 5.5 billion won. The period of this project is 5 years from July 2021 to June 2026.


Dong-Ryeol Shin, the President of SKKU, said “Sungkyunkwan University’s excellence in humanities and social sciences was once again confirmed by bringing good results in the 2021 Academic Support Project, followed by the K-Academic Expansion Project. Sungkyunkwan University will not settle for the selection of this project, but will take the lead in promoting and stimulating research in humanities and social sciences area in the future and fostering excellent researchers."
