Professor Ki-Kang Kim, Jae-Yoon Kim, Chang-Hyun Bang and Jae-Chul Lee, Selected as the Next Generation Scientists to Lead Korea


The Korean Academy of Science and Technology selected 34 young scientists who stand out as members of Young Korean Academy of Science and Technology (Y-KAST) on September 2021.


The KAST selects researchers with excellent academic performance among young scientists under the age of 43 and a next-generation science and technology leader who is likely to contribute to the development of Korea’s science and technology by focusing on one’s achievements as an independent researcher in Korea after one’s doctorate, as the Y-KAST members.


◇ Young scientists of an average age of 39.6

The average age of the members selected this year is 39.6 years old, and Sungkyunkwan University Professors; Ki-Kang Kim, Jae-Yoon Kim, Chang-Hyun Bang and Jae-Chul Lee, have been selected as the member of the Y-KAST.


The term of office of selected next-generation members will be three years from January 2021, and it is possible for them to serve a consecutive term until the age of 45 through evaluation.


The KAST President Min-Koo Han said, “In order to solve the problems facing humanity, innovative and creative thinking by young scientists is essential. On be half of the older generation of scientists, we will try to establish an environment in which young scientists can grow into responsible researchers.”
