SKKU visited Pangyo Technovalley to discuss institutional cooperation with the Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator

Sungkyunkwan University visited Startup Campus in Pangyo Technovalley, Seongnam, called Korea’s Silicon Valley, and had time to discuss cooperation plans between institutions with the Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator, and listen to the current status and success stories of Pangyo Technovalley.

Sun-Kyu Park, SKKU’s executive vice president of Natural Sciences Campus, and professor of the Intelligent ICT Convergence Research Center at the Startup Campus visited Pangyo Techno Valley and discussed institutional cooperation with Seung-Kyung Yoo, director of the Gyeonggido Business & Science Accelerator, and other officials.

Executive vice president Sun-Kyu Park encouraged executives and employees of the center by touring the Intelligent ICT Convergence Research Center and Digital Open Lab on the Startup Campus. He also said he will continue to pay attention and make efforts to help Sungkyunkwan University establish itself as a global research-oriented university in Pangyo Technovalley like Stanford University in Silicon Valley.

Digital Open Lab, built by the Ministry of Science and ICT and Gyeonggi-do, is an open platform that supports the pre-development period so that small and medium-sized startups can release D·N·A innovative devices and services through digital convergence with new ICT technologies (5G·AI, etc.)

On this day, the two institutions held various discussions on the discovery of education, R&D, and technology commercialization, including fostering talented people in the ICT field. In February 2016, Sungkyunkwan University opened an Intelligent ICT Convergence Research Center at Pangyo Startup Campus, making various efforts to develop education, including joint research on future technologies, training industry-tailored SW practical experts, and creating business success models through SME support.

Pangyo Techno Valley is a R&D complex focusing on IT, BT, CT and Fusion Technology, which was developed by Gyeonggi-do to reinforce the national competitiveness and self-sufficiency function of the Pangyo new town.

As of the end of 2020, it is Korea's first convergence innovation cluster with 1,300 tenant companies, 67,000 workers, and sales of about 108.8 trillion KRW, and is preparing to expand to 2nd Technovalley and 3rd Pangyo Technoalley in the future.
