The Second "Enlightening the World" Sungdae Myeongnyun Special Lecture 


SKKU is inviting local andinternational scholars to discuss issues in Korean society in a series ofspecial lectures. The lecture is held as a part of Sungdae Myeongnyun SpecialLecture on “Enlightening the World “and sharing global insights on political,economic, humanities, and social issues in each field. Invited local andinternational scholars are sharing their thoughts on future outlooks andstrategies to overcome the issue. 


Sungdae Myungnyun lecture started this year with the goal of spreading the SKKU philosophy of 인의예지(Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom) and developing for student’s personalities and educating community values. SKKU has invited local and international scholars and this semester is planning to invite the world’s top university faculty to increase SKKU students’ global capabilities.


On March 17th, Jun Young KIM, Chairman of the Board has offered the first special lecture and in the coming lecture on April 13th (Wednesday) second special lecture will be held moderated by faculty of SKKU Department of History Professor Ja Myung Choi and invited speaker would be Professor Walter Scheidel from Stanford University with the theme of “Understanding Economic Inequality in the very Long Term: Past, Present and Future”.

Professor Walter Scheidel 발터 is history scholar from Austria, Dickason Professor in the Humanities, Professor of Classics and History. Also well known for the author of “The Great Leveler” and “Rome and China”


Moderator for the lecture, Professor Ja Myung Choi, has said, "Professor Scheidel teaches 「From Understanding Masterworks in the Historical Studies」and his study focuses on the unequal distribution of income and wealth as one of the key issues human civilization. Professor Choi also added, "It will be a meaningful time to understand the underlying dynamics of inequality across history, evaluate the impact of the current COVID crisis, and consider its future trajectory."


Thislecture will be held at Business School 2nd floor Virtual LiveStudio online and offline (Live Streaming).
